Confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and psychotherapist. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter that is generally not discussed anywhere but the therapist's office. Sometimes, however, you may want your therapist to share information or give an update to someone on your healthcare team. The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which we are required by law to report to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, we must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, we will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, we will take further measures without their permission that are provided to us by law in order to ensure their safety.

Client sessions are by appointment only, Tuesday through Thursday, 9 am – 7 pm. To schedule an appointment, call the counseling office at 724-799-7997 or complete the appointment request form below. All calls are confidential.
